Shiatsu massage treatments

Drawing on Eastern traditions and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu is a holistic bodywork therapy that works with our energy/qi to balance the mind-body-heart. It is a deeply nourishing experience, and clients can feel more restored and centred in their body after a treatment. Regular treatments may help to reduce stress, relieve physical tension, and contribute to overall wellbeing.

Shiatsu massage is performed fully clothed and lying comfortably on a futon, either on your back, front or side. Each treatment is uniquely tailored to the individual. A qualified practitioner uses thumbs, palms, elbows, knees and feet to apply pressure to various parts of the body. Treatments may also include flowing stretches and gentle rotations of the limbs and joints, simple structural alignments and muscle release techniques.

On a physical level, this has the effect of stimulating circulation, flow of lymphatic fluid, and helps to release toxins and tension from the muscles. On a subtler level, treatments connect with the body’s inherent ability for self healing and regeneration.

Phuong is the co-owner of Yama Ki and a qualified shiatsu practitioner.

She began her shiatsu journey in early 2015 while working as an engineer and sustainability consultant in Melbourne CBD. After over a decade of highly technical work, she was drawn to develop a deeper connection with the body, mind and heart.

In her treatments, Phuong has an intuitively firm but nourishing touch. She brings stillness, compassion and deeply listens to the body while maintaining a strong sense of grounding.

Phuong is a mother to a vibrant toddler, keen gardener, and aspiring herbalist. She brings practical knowledge of living with the seasons, maintaining family work life balance, and wholefoods cooking. Outside of treatments, you will find her making sauerkrauts, miso and sourdough, drying herbs, and in the garden growing food.

Rebecca is a qualified Shiatsu and Craniosacral Practitioner, providing treatments at Yama Ki on Wednesday.

Her journey in complementary health began in 2008 as a means to deepen self exploration. For three years, she worked alongside an acupuncturist as a moxibustion therapist while also doing a Craniosacral internship. With growing interests in Traditional East Asian Medicine, she began studying Shiatsu in 2016.

Rebecca endeavours to facilitate an environment of safety during treatments through acknowledging the body’s innate capacity to self heal. The body speaks and through touch we can listen and be met.

Outside of treatments she enjoys bush walks, Taiji, and being in the garden.
